The security technology company is bringing 27 new high-wage jobs
PASCO COUNTY, FLORIDA (November 14, 2019) — AFA Protective Systems, Inc. recently relocated to a 5,800 square foot facility in the West Pasco Industrial Park off of State Road 54 in Odessa, Florida.
“AFA Protective Systems is a pioneer in their industry, and we are proud that they now call Pasco County ‘home’,” said Bill Cronin, Pasco EDC President. “Pasco’s live work and play communities are attracting a diverse skilled workforce that puts Pasco in a very competitive position to win future projects.”
Founded in 1873, AFA is the oldest central station alarm company operating in the United States. The company designs, installs, and monitors fire, safety and security systems. After the “Great Chicago Fire” of 1872, fire prevention and detection became a national issue. In response. William B. Watkins launched the New York City based Watkins Automatic Signal Telegraph Company in 1873, which sent alarm signals directly to the fire stations. The company expanded its operations to Boston in 1874 and thereafter to the Philadelphia market. On December 23, 1899 the name was changed to Automatic Fire Alarm Company. The company has continued to prosper, even throughout the challenges of the Great Depression and two world wars. In 1970 the corporate name was changed to AFA Protective Systems to better reflect the expanded services.
"Most of our employees live in Pasco County and increasing their quality of life by reducing their commute times really was a major factor in our decision to move to Pasco," Jim Johnson, Regional Manager, AFA Protective Systems, Inc. “Our business is growing in the Tampa Bay region and we like Pasco’s proximity to our customers.”
“This company cares about others. Not only was AFA Protective Systems looking out for their employees and their quality of life, when they chose Pasco, they also manufacture products that save the lives of others,” said Pasco County Commissioner, Mike Wells.
